The Office of New Student & Carolina Parent Programs incorporates services for both new students and the parents of all undergraduates in a team environment where professional staff and student assistants work together in a small office setting. Our office is situated within the Division of Student Affairs, which is dedicated to enhancing the quality of student life outside the classroom. We work to create a campus environment that supports both student growth and parent involvement. This is accomplished through our many programs and services.
Programs that Introduce New Students to Carolina Life
Our office is devoted to the well-being of Carolina’s newest students. We want them to succeed in meeting new friends and becoming acclimated to University life. We offer programs designed to get them off to the right start during summer orientation, CTOPS and TSOP, for incoming freshmen and transfer students respectively. We also present students with an introduction to the University’s academic atmosphere through the Summer Reading Program. To officially welcome new students to campus, our office organizes Convocation and plans a whole week of activities geared toward meeting new people and having fun during Week of Welcome (WOW). New students can find more information at http://newstudents.unc.edu.

Services that Keep Parents in Mind
Our office welcomes parents into the Carolina Family from the start by offering informative parent orientation programs and materials such as the Carolina Parents Handbook. We keep parents connected to University news by providing monthly e-mail updates and a biannual Carolina Family magazine. Our office also helps parents create Tar Heel connections in their local areas through regional programs like Parents Clubs. Finally, we show parents the best of student life by organizing on-campus events like Family Weekend. Parents can find more information at http://parents.unc.edu. |
